Gastroscopy

Get a quick appointment for a gastroscopy at RocklandMD Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Centre.

This service is offered at the RocklandMD Town of Mount Royal location.

The gastroscopy

A gastroscopy is the preferred diagnostic tool when patient symptoms suggest problems of the upper digestive tract. It is an endoscopic exam, during which the physician, assisted by a nurse, uses a flexible probe with a camera (endoscope) to visualize the esophagus, the stomach and the duodenum.

One or several biopsies can be performed during the procedure. They are sent  to pathology for analysis. Pathology reports are available 2 to 4 weeks following the procedure.

Risks associated with the gastroscopy procedure

Although rare, the possible risks associated with a gastroscopy are:

  • Bleeding
  • Aspiration pneumonia
  • Perforation
  • Infection

Security and comfort : our priorities

Once your gastroscopy is done and you are ready to leave the Centre, you will be given contact information allowing you to reach a nurse 24/7 should you have any concerns.
