Vascular Medicine Clinic - Venous insufficiency

Venous insufficiency is caused by reflux in the saphenous veins.  It can be treated either surgically by saphenectomy  (stripping) under general anesthesia, or by endovenous laser treatment.

The endovenous laser is an innovative, non-invasive technique.  The treatment is done by introducing a laser fiber into the vein. Once the laser is activated, the heat of the laser induces the sclerosis of the vein.

The procedure is done in the physician’s office under local anesthesia and using a sterile technique.  Recovery is much quicker and the results are much more aesthetic.

During the consultation, a physical examination is done with an ultrasound to allow the doctor to assess yours needs.

The ultrasound is essential in evaluating the condition of your veins, the diameter of the veins, their anatomy, their valves, the direction of the blood flow and the presence of reflux or clots.

During your consultation, you will be informed about the different treatments available and the best procedure for you.
