Vertical gastrectomy

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive technique that involves removing about 2/3 of the stomach and, in particular, the part containing the cells that secretes the hormone that stimulates appetite (ghrelin). The stomach is reduced to a vertical tube and the food passes quickly through the intestines. The appetite is greatly reduced and the digestion of food is not disturbed. The sleeve gastrectomy is sometimes the first step in a gastric bypass or biliopancreatic diversion.

The vertical gastrectomy (gastric sleeve) is practiced in RocklandMD bariatric surgery center. We invite you to contact us for more information on this procedure.
